FEE ARRANGEMENTS

Shore Freeman Mills attorneys have worked for large and small law firms and as general counsel who hires and pays outside attorneys. Based on these experiences, our billing practices are based on three important principles.
  1. The client deserves to know what he is paying for.
  2. Attorneys should be paid for results, not just the time they take working on the case; and
  3. The attorney and clients' interests should be aligned.
We believe that our system of compensation based on these three principles provides more value to clients.

In hourly cases, we send bills monthly and provide specific details to our clients that answer the questions "who, what, when and how much." Actual case-related expenses like filing fees and travel are clearly detailed in our bill and charged at the firm’s cost.

In support of the second and third principles, we often customize our fee arrangements so that our compensation is based, in part, on the level of success we achieve for our clients. These customized fee structures may include reduced hourly charges combined with contingent fees or bonuses, or contingency fee arrangements where the firm receives no compensation unless we are successful in obtaining a recovery for the client, a dismissal of the case, or a settlement of less than a certain amount.
