Mr. Brown focuses his law practice on helping Exploration and Production Companies from across the country explore for and develop oil and natural gas. He has written numerous timely title opinions that are essential to the drilling process and represented E&P companies in various lawsuits brought by surface owners, mineral owners, and other working interest owners. Mr. Brown has also represented pipeline companies in condemnation suits and other matters to secure and protect the right-of-ways for their pipelines.

The following is a list of Mr. Brown’s significant representative engagements
- The successful completion and integration of division order title opinions for three large gas units in Harrison County, Texas.
- Numerous drilling title opinions for exploration projects in Harrison County, Smith County, Panola County, Freestone County, Robertson County, Rusk County, Limestone County, Leon County, and Dimmit County.
- Secured satisfactory settlement in a lawsuit involving expired oil and gas leases and saltwater disposal damages to landowner.
- Represented many Oil and Gas Companies in having the court appoint receivers to represent unknown mineral owners and subsequently obtaining oil and gas leases from those receivers.
- Condemnation matters related to the construction of a natural gas pipeline through Tyler and Jasper Counties, Texas.
Prior Associations
Before beginning his career in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Brown was an Air Force Intelligence Officer for seven years, the last three of which he spent working with the Central Intelligence Agency during the Dessert Storm conflict. Mr. Brown then worked for nine years as a petroleum landman in East Texas before receiving his license to practice law in Texas. He then joined Flowers Davis, PLLC, in Tyler, Texas where he practiced oil & gas law focusing on title opinions and division order title opinions for E&P companies. Mr. Brown joined SFM in 2007. He and his wife Susan, have two sons, and two granddaughters.
